Professional Development Plan for Yuxi Nie

1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teaching Experiences: I have been tutoring English in college for middle school students. I learned that the key element to inspire my students’ interest to learn English is to build up a trustful and friendly relationship with them. Once I could win their friendship, I found their interest were raised. Current Abilities: I have a good mastery of English. I am able to teach English grammer, writing, speaking to Chinese students. I can also combine online sources with knowlegde from the textbooks for teaching. I am able to use wikispace and blogger for class discussion and assignments, and use audio clips for improving students’ listening skills. By introducing audacity, I could ask students to practice their oral English after class. I could also introduce usage of E-journals to students to broaden the outside sources. I also know how to use Microsoft movie maker. Goals: First, I will try to accumulate teaching expiriences in this year. And then in the work, I will try to use on-line sources to enrich students’ learning invironment. I will use Powerpoint for teaching, and introducing wikispace, blogger, audacity into my working invironment. I also decide to use Microsoft movie maker to plan lesson and record the class process, so that between the teachers can exchange opinions about lessons and also build up the online courses. Needs: I will need learn about what students need most and what teachers need most in the teaching environment. I need to have more professional expiriences. Short Term Plan: I plan to find a teaching job in my university training school to teach English in June. In this training school, the students are usually middle school students or from all kinds of occupations who need to improve their English. I will teach for the summer class for two months. And I plan to teach English writing since I had Intermidiate Writing class in US. i will outsource the textbook from this class to teach writing and grammer. I will also introduce wikispace for assigning homework and question discussions. In this way, students will not only learn how to write in English, but also exchange their ideas with eath other. I will also use my wikispace letting my students give me comments for the class. I will find more useful websites for English reading to improve my reading skills as well as my future students. I will read two English essays everyday from May 20th. I will also work for on-line translation to get familiar with all kinds forms of English texts. Long Term Plan: I plan to look for internship in China after the Summer class teaching. I still plan to work for education. I am going to help students for language tests such as Toefl and GRE tests. Since I have had the classes for preparing these tests, I am going to pratice these tests online so that I can help students from my own expirience. I plan to work on teaching technology and instructional psychology in the next year. I will read more methods about education psychology from late Augest after summer class. Then, I will go to a university in US for Master’s program on Instructional Psychology and Technology. Assessment: I will write down my short term and long term plan and put on my working dext to remind my everyday what I am supposed to do. I will also show my plan to my friends and family for motivation. And every week I will record my improvement and achievements.
